Sage & Sweetgrass
Native American sage and sweetgrass are an intimate part of tribal beliefs, especially for traditional Plains Indian ceremonies, and must be treated honorably.
Native peoples throughout the world use these sacred herbs to practice smudging - as sage and sweetgrass are burned, the smoke is rubbed or brushed over the body, objects or room. It is believed that ceremonial smudging can assist a person to be healed or heal another. In Native American culture, smudging and sacred herbs are seen as critical to purification.
Note about use
Sage drives out bad feelings, bad spirits, negative thoughts or negative energy. It is good to burn sweetgrass first as sweetgrass attracts ALL the spirits, and then burn sage to repel the more negative influences. Sage also ritually cleanses the area.
